ALASKA TWILIGHT

By Colleen Coble

Review by Laura V. Hilton

Haley Walsh reluntantly accepts the position of photographer to bear activist, Kipp Nowak. After all, she needs to face her past. Years earlier, she and her sister were trapped in a mine when it collapsed, and Haley’s sister died. Haley lost her leg and her parents’ love and was sent to live with her grandmother. Twenty years have gone by, and Haley has not seen or spoken with her parents. Still, her sister’s death weighs on her, and Haley knows she has to find peace with it before she can move on.

Tank Lassiter is a wildlife biologist who is struggling alone to raise his young daughter, Brooke, and to prove himself innocent when the local authorities accuse him of murdering his wife. It is not easy, especially when his wife’s twin sister is out to prove that Tank is an unfit father and wants custody of Brooke. Kipp Nowak compounds issues when he wants to be photographed treating wild bears as pets. Tank tries to educate Kipp and his followers and hopefully save lives when a predatory bear surfaces.

A series of murders, break-ins, and assault forces Haley into an uneasy alliance with Tank. Romance blooms as the danger deepens. Will Haley and Tank find the murderer before someone else dies?

ALASKA TWILIGHT starts out a bit slower than some of Ms. Coble’s previous books, but it is still an excellent read. Book ten in the Women of Faith series, ALASKA TWILIGHT easily stands alone. Readers will enjoy seeing how Ms. Coble also works in some of the characters from The Rock Harbor series.

Tank is a modern-day “Daniel Boone” at home in the Alaskan Wilderness and with the bears. Haley is a city-girl, more comfortable in Phoenix, Arizona, than in small town Alaska. Nevertheless, she tackles the wilderness with an aggressiveness that impresses me. Tank struggles to fight his attraction to her and keep himself and his daughter from harm when Haley returns home to Arizona.

I was totally stunned when Ms. Coble revealed the murderer. I had my suspicions of who-dun-it, but I was totally off-base. ALASKA TWILIGHT is another winner from Colleen Coble. $14.99. 320 pages.
