When a famous mystery writer moves to Cape Refuge, Sheila Caruso is thrilled to get a job working for him, because she has a prison record, and gainful employment is difficult to find. Still, she is stunned when she is typing his books in and a scene that he has written accurately describes, down to the last detail, a murder that recently occurred in the area. Scared, Sheila goes straight to the police.
Soon, a second dead girl is discovered by Police Chief Matthew Cade. When the scene mirrors another crime described in the author’s books, Chief Cade has no choice but to question the author and put him under surveillance. Unfortunately, evidence is showing up in Cade’s truck, making him the prime suspect. And two more girls have gone missing. Will Cade be able to clear his name and find the girls before it’s too late?
BREAKER’S REEF is the fourth and final book in the Cape Refuge series, but it easily stands alone. I was instantly drawn into the story and couldn’t put it down. I kept reading until late at night—and for me, that is unusual.
There are times in the book where I cried, so readers may want a box of tissue close by. I identified strongly with the characters and hate to see this series end. Who the killer was kept me guessing until it was revealed. Bravo, Terri! This is yet another winner. A chapter of her newest book, Last Light, is included at the end. $12.99. 311 pages.
