Ian Russell had waited all his life for the perfect woman, prepared for him by God. While he waited, he worked diligently as a surgeon, striving to lighten the burden of filth and illness in London. Eleanor Neville had worked a decade to earn her way into leading roles on the stage. She had overcome a wretched past, had been careful to choose companions that could help her on her path. The good Mr. Russell is little more than a diversion for her. And she is all wrong for Ian, that he knows. So why is he so fascinated by the beautiful actress? The Healing Season plunged the readers straight into the heart of sickness-ridden nineteenth century London, and straight into the hearts of its characters, too. Ian is a conscientious man, one always cautious. Whether it be in his surgical practice or his personal life, he is determined to be the instrument of the Lord. That’s why he can’t figure out his attraction to the morally-bankrupt actress. Yes, Eleanor is beautiful, but can he maintain his pure ethics in her continued presence? Eleanor is an intriguing woman of secrets and ambition. Even though one will readily recognize her flaws, one will also be thoroughly invested in her life. Though she had certainly made mistakes, I hated to see her judged for them; instead, I longed to see her succeed. Morren wove a story you won’t soon forget in A Healing Season. Both of the characters come face-to-face with questions they never thought they’d need to address. Ian’s faith was challenged, as was Eleanor’s very way of life. For much of the book I was unsure how these two would manage to resolve their differences so their hearts could truly meet in the middle, but the author drew me effortlessly and skillfully from page to page. This is a must-read for lovers of historical romance. It paints a vivid and detailed picture of life in that era, and you won’t want to put it down. Morren is a master of her art. This was my first book by Ruth Axtell Morren, but it certainly won’t be the last. Publisher: Steeple Hill Buy it now from our affiliate Bookstore CrossPurposesBooks.com |
