While there are many Bible studies and devotionals written for children, many are not as focused as this one by singer/songwriter Kim Hill. Many revolve around particular Bible stories, but this one takes one of eight songs as the guide for each section (CD of songs is available, sold separately). Hill writes from her own experience as a single parent to offer comfort and reassurance to children dealing with their parents’ divorce. Each devotional is only a page long, with an accompanying activity page designed for child(ren) and parents to complete together. Each contains a memory verse and a phrase from the song that inspired that section. Topics covered include Jesus being an ever present Friend, watching over His children continually and counting each one of their tears. Although this devotional is designed specifically for children recovering from divorce, it could be easily adapted for any child. Many of the devotionals focus on themes applicable to anyone and do not specifically mention divorce. Those that do can often be adapted by changing one sentence or paragraph. Hill writes in everyday language, assuring children that they are not alone during this difficult time and giving them practical ways to give their problems to God.
