HOT FLASHES AND COLD CREAM
By Diann Hunt
Review by Laura V. Hilton

Maggie Hayden develops a severe mid-life crisis on the day when a former school mate doesn’t recognize her. Her world is spinning out of control, and Maggie doesn’t know whether to invest in stock for the local coffee house down the street (where she spends every waking hour) or get a job. Or maybe she’ll stalk her best friend, Lily, who is trying to find a love relationship after her husband’s tragic death.

When Maggie’s husband, Gordon, seems to be having an affair, Maggie is convinced that life as she knows it is over. How will she ever manage two grown kids, a sputtering marriage, and a dating best friend without going completely insane? And why is that the local Amish have their lives in control and hers is spiraling completely off course?

HOT FLASHES AND COLD CREAM is the latest and greatest by Diann Hunt. Those who aren’t at this stage of life might find it difficult to relate to the characters and situations. Nevertheless, the book is funny, and I couldn’t put it down. I had to find out what misadventure Maggie would experience next.

HOT FLASHES AND COLD CREAM reminds me in a way of Lucy and Ricky on the television sit com I Love Lucy. Maggie’s relationship with Lily and Gordon, reminds me of Lucy’s relationship with Ricky and her friend Ethel. It is funny reading. $14.99. 311 pages.
