Keeping His Pants On Until He Gets Home
By Joyce S. Oglesby
Review by Jennifer Bogart

Joyce Oglesby, a pastor's wife of 35 years issues a clarion call to women to passionately engage their husbands in the battle against infidelity.  A refreshing change of pace from books that often sweep the issues of adultery and subsequent divorce under the rug, Oglesby encourages women to fight the good fight for their marriages, and she's not talking fisticuffs.

While Oglesby does not place the responsibility for staying true within a marriage entirely upon the shoulders of wives, she certainly acknowledges how the level of intimacy with their husbands affects all aspects of married
life.  Sharing real life (with names changed) examples from her own marriage as well as her formal and informal counseling of individuals and couples she illustrates how investing in the intimate aspects of the marriage
relationship can shelter and protect it from temptation.  Oglesby provides practical suggestions covering both attitude and hands-on techniques to try within marriages.

Appropriate for couples in strong relationships as well as those who are struggling, Oglesby meets readers where they are at and provides enthusiastic cheerleading for wives to engage their husbands intimately and often.  Her suggestions are never rude or vulgar, and readers are left free to pick and choose what works for them. Unmarried individuals should certainly steer clear of this book however, unless their marriage is imminent some descriptions may prove tempting to singles.

I found the phrasing of some sentences awkward, which slowed down my reading time somewhat.  My internal editor kicked into gear and started mentally replacing oddly chosen, or needlessly complex words so that I could grasp what the author was trying to convey.  I also found some sentences arranged oddly this title could have benefited from some tighter editing.

This title offers little in the way of scriptural support, though Ogelsby often emphasizes the importance of honoring God with our choices.  This work provides a friendly conversation with an experienced wife, Titus 2 style.  Never claiming to be a comprehensive guide to the physical aspects of marriage, Oglesby shares with us from her deep reserves of personal knowledge.  She draws from her lengthy experiences as a loving wife in a passionate marriage to provide much of the material presented.

Keeping His Pants On provides readers with a serious attitude adjustment. Oglesby encourages women to dig deep, commit to and invest in their intimate relationship with their husbands. Iıve found that when Iım feeling tired or lack-lustre just glancing at her book reminds me of the importance of creating a passionate marriage as opposed to just getting by.  After all we all want to keep his pants on!
