MILLION DOLLAR DILEMMA

Author: Judy Baer

Review by Laura V. Hilton

Cassia Carr is a P.K., preacher’s kid (or, if you want to get fancy, a T.O., a theologian’s offspring.) She has been raised to communicate by Scripture and verse. Now, Cassia has moved away from her home and is working in a big city at an establishment where it seems that most of her income goes toward collections for gifts for her co-workers. When another envelope appears on her desk asking for a $5.00 contribution, Cassia doesn’t think twice about donating, although she does wonder who is having the baby or getting married. She is stunned and horrified on Monday to learn that what she thought was a baby gift was actually going for a lottery ticket—and she and her officemates won!

While everyone in her department is celebrating, Cassia is reduced to tears. If her friends and family find out that she won over twenty million in the lottery she will die of shame . . . She has to give the money away, and quick. Unfortunately, the local church refuses to take it, even though they need the money, because of where it comes from. Cassia doesn’t want to give it away to all these unknown relatives coming out of the woodwork. And now three men are pursuing her. Are they after her or her money?

Adam Cavanaugh is fascinated by his lottery winning neighbor. A jaded reporter, Cassia’s dillema is just the type of story he needs to cheer him up after his last nightmarish assignment. And all the money he earns will go straight to his pet cause. Since Cassia considers Adam her friend, the story is landing right in his lap. But why does he feel so terrible about it? Can he possibly trust God to provide instead of maneuvering things on his own?

MILLION DOLLAR DILEMMA is a fantastic read. I totally loved and related to Cassia and enjoyed getting to know Adam. I have never read a chick lit written in both first person and third person before, but Judy Baer handled it well. I think it added a lot to the story having Adam’s story included as well as Cassia’s.

I did feel there were a few unresolved issues in MILLION DOLLAR DILEMMA. I’d like to see future novels develop from this story. All in all, MILLION DOLLAR DILEMMA is a fantastic book and one I highly recommend. $12.95. 320 pages.
