More Pages from the Red Suit Diaries
By Ed Butchart
Review by Mimi Baker

I think we all have our own thoughts on the mall Santas. Mine was one of a guy who happened to look like Santa so he ended up with the job for a season. I have no idea if we’ve ever seen the same Santa twice. It’s always been a moment to cherish and then it’s over. We’ve never created a relationship with the mall Santas we’ve shared our lists with.

Reading More Pages from the Red Suit Diaries was a breath of fresh air and it gave me an entirely new view on who Santa is; historical and contemporary. Ed Butchart shares in his 2nd book more stories of those he met and created relationships as Santa. It cracks me up that people will approach Ed and act as if they’re the first one whose ever thought he looks like Santa.

I never realized that Santas, many of them, take this job literally and seriously! What a ministry they can have. The lives they have the ability to touch is profound. They can bring hope and joy to the lives of the kids that they meet. There are colleges where men can get their degrees in being a Santa. How incredible is that? Being Santa is serious business.

On top of being Santa, and touching the lives of many, Ed and his wife Annie (who has passed away) began a non-profit organization called FODAC (Friends of Disabled Adults and Children). They give away refurbished wheelchairs to disabled people. It’s an amazing story how this ministry came about.

Reading this story, you will gain insight into the daily life of a Santa. I learned more about Santa than I ever thought there was to know. The personal stories Ed shares will tug at your heartstrings and I doubt anyone will be able to look at Santa in the same light again.
