Saddled with emotional trauma that far outweighs any physical baggage she could have brought with her from Philadelphia, Sarah is an aching but strong heroine who will make you smile even as you shake your head at her obstinacy. Clay, bitter and bent on revenge, starts as one of those characters whom you like, though you’re not quite sure why. His dynamics through the story soon help you see the good heart under his gruff exterior, and by the end you’ll be standing up and cheering them both on. Lovers of westerns and historical romance will adore Paper Roses. Cabot crafts a tale of God’s sovereign grace with emotion and skill. I carried this book with me into every room of the house until I was finished, unwilling to leave it until I’d flipped that last page and let out a happy sigh.
