Laura Meade had it all. She grew up in a well to do home. Her dad was a prominent lawyer, her mom in all the right social circles. Laura was on her way to success as well. She was transferring to a school in Lancaster, PA for interior design, and she was hoping that she would get some good insights from the Amish community to help her come up with some fresh ideas to take back to Minneapolis when she finished with school. Her first step was to go the local farmers’ market to see for herself some of the fine Amish handcrafted items she had heard so much about. Truth be told, Laura was as fascinated with the Amish themselves as she was the goods that they made. So it should not have come as a big surprise to Laura to find herself making friends with handsome Eli Yoder. As she spends more and more time with Eli, she realizes she is falling in love with him. She also realizes that they come from two very different worlds. Eli’s family is anything but happy at the growing friendship between him and Laura, but they know it has to be Eli’s choice to stay within the Amish church or not. To pursue a relationship outside the church boundaries could result in a shunning. So although Eli has also fallen in love with Laura, he is determined not to do anything that will take him from his Amish family and church. To break off the relationship is the only way. Or is it? Come with Laura on her road to faith and love, and thrill with her as she learns far more in Lancaster than she ever dreamed possible. She’s never had a personal faith before, so she has no idea how to open herself up to Him, but in Plain and Fancy we get to go with her as she learns what true faith is–and what happens when false faith is exposed. Your heart will be warmed as you see the transition Laura makes for love, and in those she loves as well. I love these books! They are fresh and wholesome and full of the lessons we all need today.
