Allie Richards lost her husband a few years ago. Now she’s lost her job. The bank won’t give her a loan to start her own business. And she’s got two daughters who really don’t need to be worrying about whether they’re going to have dinner on the table tonight. She’s already living over her mom’s garage. . . things have got to start looking up, right? When the town announces a landscaping contest, she thinks maybe it’s her chance to start the business she’s always dreamed of. The winner will receive a juicy city contract and a new truck, just what she needs to get her dreams off the ground. Her friends, the same friends she’s had all her life, encourage her to go for it. But with those friends of the Pinky Promise Sisterhood and her brother–the one who’s been sitting around playing video games ever since his business partner betrayed him–as her only helpers, what are the chances of Allie actually pulling this thing off? To top it off, the man who saw her shame at the bank–Daniel Montgomery, whom she had a crush on in high school, and whom she does not have a crush on now–seems to be there every time she turns around. He’s the cameraman that the TV station sponsoring the contest sends her way. He owns the new bookstore that she and her friends go to. His nephew plays soccer with her daughters. It makes it kind of hard to steer clear of him; but she’s got to steer clear of him. He’s a motorcycle-riding risk-taker, exactly the kind of man she does not need in her life. No, maybe the tight-laced Mr. Wright is her Mr. Right. Or maybe she’s just wrong to think she has time for romance at all, because juggling the competition with family life and putting meals on the table is a lot harder than she thought it might be. Promise Me Always is a humorous story about a woman in the middle of a very serious place in her life, and the lighthearted combines with the deep-hearted in this book to create a novel you’re going to love. Allie encounters some problems with prioritizing and trusting God, not to mention trusting herself and her friends. She faces a snooty TV anchor and a guy who just won’t give up, and I enjoyed every page of her determination and tribulation. The light touch allows you laugh with her through the hard parts, but the very real struggles of Allie and those she loves is going to reach out and grab you, not letting go. This is the story of a landscape architect who plants with more love than experience and has to learn to sow in faith so she can reap in joy. You’re going to love this book, and if you’re anything like me, you’re going to be eagerly awaiting the next installment of The Pinky Promise Sisterhood Series. Publication Date: December 2006
