SAHM I AM
By Meredith Efken
Review by Laura V. Hilton

Members of an email loop for stay-at-home moms develop close friendships on-line where they can discuss things like:

Dulcie Huckleberry’s husband is a traveling computer programmer, gone more than he is home. She is struggling to raise three children alone, attend to her mother-in-law’s upcoming wedding, and keep her own marriage from going under.

Zelia Muzuwa is the artistic member. She homeschools and includes her little angels in her glass blowing business, until her husband decides to put the children in a private school instead. How will she ever cope?

Jocelyn Millard is a happy soccer mom until her son’s aches and pains turn into something more serious.

Brenna Lindberg is getting used to life on the farm with her husband, Darren, but what happens when they want a child and finds out that he is unable to father one?

Phyllis Lorimer is a happy pastor’s wife until the church fires her husband with no warning. They have to be out of the parsonage in less than a week, but where can they go?

List moderator Rosalyn Ebberly is suffering because her more successful sister is the apple of her parents’ eyes. What happens when her sister decides to join the loop?

SAHM I AM is an adorable read. Written in email format, it was almost as if I was a member of this loop, and I couldn’t wait to keep up with my ‘new friends.’ I was disappointed when the book ended and I no longer could read the loop emails. I hope Ms. Efken has a sequel to this book planned. I would like to see how things pan out in some of the characters’ lives.

Even though the book is written in email format, I found it easy to follow. Ms. Efken’s style of writing makes you care about the characters and what happens to them. The reader has no idea what they look like, but that doesn’t stop them from connecting. I highly recommend this book, with its funny stories about staying home with your children, to any stay at home mom. I could easily relate to the story since I am a SAHM with five children. $336 pages. $12.95.
