So Not Happening is about sixteen-year-old Bella Kirkwood. Bella’s spent her years living it up in Manhattan, but then her father, a plastic surgeon to the stars, decided to trade her mother in for a newer model. Bella’s mom falls in love a man she met on the Internet—a factory worker with two bratty sons—and Bella is transplanted to live with her new family in Truman, Oklahoma. Bella doesn’t take too kindly to the idea of trading her uber-trendy NYC life for down-home charm. And she really doesn’t like the idea that God might have a purpose in plunking her down in the middle of nowhere. Before long, Bella smells something rotten in the town of Truman, and it’s not just the cow pasture. With her savvy reporter’s instincts, she is determined to find the story behind all the secrets. At the start of So Not Happening, I was so not sure how I’d like spending 326 pages with Bella Kirkwood. The girl’s a snob and needs some serious work. But within the first chapter, Jones had me rooting for her. Watching Bella’s transformation from local pariah to local hero was a delight, and I’m counting the days until book two releases.
