George Laurence isn’t looking forward to his stay in the sweltering Louisiana town—not until he meets Anne Hawthorne. But the surge of attraction just makes things stickier. He’s here on behalf of his employer, posing as the groom in a wedding Anne’s been contracted to plan. The idea is to keep his celebrity boss’s identity hidden, but the deception doesn’t sit well on his conscience to begin with. That compounds exponentially as he falls in love with Anne, who may never forgive him when she learns about the lie. But the only other option is to break his contract, which will lose him his work visa and get him sent back to England. Can he find a way to convince her to give him a chance, to forgive the lie? Or will the truth just make things even worse? Stand-In Groom is a definite must read! Kaye Dacus combines wit and humor with soul-searching honesty and depth, resulting in a book every romance lover will devour. The plot is rich with layer upon layer of twists and developments, the characters complex and lovable and utterly believable. Though I figured out most of the twists early on, this was one of those stories that kept me flipping the pages as fast as I could to see how it would play out with the characters. Themes of forgiveness and trust were woven seamlessly into the story, urging Anne and George onward without ever feeling like the author was forcing the reader to “deal with” the issues. Stand-In Groom was definitely a book I was sorry to see end, even as I cheered at the perfectly tied-up conclusion. I can’t wait to see more from this fabulous new author! Hers is a voice that enriches the romance genre.
