Stealing Adda

By Tamara Leigh

Review by Karlene Hibbard

Stealing Adda, a witty romance by new author Tamara Leigh, tells the troubled story of a modern-day romance writer as she fights for respect, a seven-figure contract, and a chance at new love.  The beginning of the book finds Adda Sinclair at the height of her career, despite her recent divorce and waning love life.  In search of a new publisher, Adda signs on with Nick Farnsworth, only to find herself caught up in a confusing game of love, war, and revenge.

Accused of plagiarism by her long-time nemesis and husband-stealing peer, Birgitta, Adda must find a way to prove her works original, subsequently saving her contract and her budding relationship with Nick.  Throughout her struggles, Adda is finding herself seeking help from the Bible given to her by a young, eager door-to-door Southern Baptist missionary.  As her conscience emerges and she finds herself seeking the right action and not just the easiest, Adda eventually decides that she wants to live a life modeled after Jesus.

I must admit, I was doubtful that Leigh would be able to pull off an interesting plot despite the slightly cliché storyline and obvious foreshadowing.  However, I was impressed with her clever writing and in-depth character development.  I found it refreshing that the parts written most wittily were when Adda was contemplating the pros of Christianity—far from preachy overtones, Leigh used comedy and thoughts we’re all likely to have to get into the heart of her heroine and lead her to faith.  Written in first-person, it was easy to get involved in the story and hard to put it down.  Overall, an enjoyable read that kept me entertained for a good part of the day.
