Talk of the Town
By Lisa Wingate
Review by Karen Higson |
What do you get when you cross a Hollywood reality TV show, a small town Texas
up and coming singer, an LA producer, a record producer, and a group of small
town women with a desire to see one of their own make it big? What you get is a
cute and fresh story that is sure to make you smile at their antics and
sympathize with the trials they find themselves up against.
That is just what we have with this story of associate producer for American
Megastar, Mandalay Florentino, as she comes to the small town of Daily,
Texas for her show. Mandalay thinks she is on top of everything until she sees
that the people of this small town are already wise to what she is trying to
keep a secret, and that is the fact that Amber Anderson is a semi-finalist in
the reality show. The problem is that if word gets out and the announcement
isn't a surprise, then it could mean Mandalay's job.
Mandalay meets many interesting people in this small town, one of whom is
Carter. But who is he, and why is he trying to be so helpful? Is he from a
tabloid, just waiting to expose her secret or worse? The fact that Mandalay
finds herself falling in love with him doesn't help matters either, especially
since she is engaged to another man. And what about that—what is he up to while
Mandalay is away? Hmmmm.
Could the woman that seems to be everywhere and know everything actually be a
help to Mandalay in her quest to set up this surprise announcement?
With a new twist at every turn, I think you will find this book a cute, light
read that is certain to give your sprits a little lift, as Mandalay and the
other characters find themselves searching for more than recognition for Amber.
I found this book funny and well written; where it didn't grab me right from the
start, it did warm me and make me smile, but as I read more and more, I found
myself eager to see how it would end. For me, if a book can make me not want to
put it down, then, well it hit its mark. That is what this book did for me. Read
and enjoy! I know I did.
