Boys are growing up confused and frustrated. In a culture where men are ridiculed, degraded, and fathers are deemed unnecessary, boys no longer know the masculine ideal toward which to strive. They are lost and drifting. Today’s men and fathers need to rise up and unapologetically defy the culture’s anti-male creed and fearlessly model and teach their boys God’s design and intention for men. Don Otis steps boldly into this potential hornet’s nest. Writing to both men and women, and using lots of illustrations, he identifies the key concerns and brings clarity to the discussions on active, passive, and absent fathers, the widespread effects of feminism on the male population, the consequence of a male-bashing media, and God’s design of the male and female roles. With both cultural and Biblical insight, Otis recalibrates our thinking toward true masculinity. Though well-written and engaging, it is not without concerns. Profanity is implied on page 42, and boys fighting each other is described in an almost-positive manner. Overall though, this was an excellent book, casting much needed light on a critical issue facing our families, churches, and communities. I would strongly encourage men and women, parents, pastors, youth pastors, and men’s ministry leaders to read this book and begin implementing Otis’ ideas. Publisher: Living Ink Books
