And the culprit was. . .
Ham Gordon by Jill Elizabeth Nelson
Yes, you’ll find my fingerprints on the phone keys, but so what if I made a call. As a favor to a friend of his, my pastor asked me to call the number as soon as I got to Agent Kessler’s house.
I had no idea giving a simple message to someone I’ve never met would invite a bullet through the window. The shot missed me by inches because I happened to be standing near the target. Dear Reverend Tomlin will be outraged when I tell him that his favor to a friend was abused. Tsk! Tsk! So few people you can trust these days.
Not that I would have attended the funeral if the shooter had been more accurate and hit my FBI agent host. The bureau has it in for me. Why? I don’t know. Sure, I escaped justice once, but can’t they see I’m on the straight and narrow now, seeking Truth with the help of the Inner Witness?
Lots of luck proving that I have any connection with the shooter. I was just obeying my pastor’s instructions, and he thought he was doing an innocent favor for someone else. The Reverend Tomlin and I have nothing to feel guilty about, and nothing to fear from the authorities. We of the Inner Witness are above mere man-made laws. Misunderstood, persecuted, we can only continue to strive to enlighten others. |
